Contractor Checklist
What to Include in a Hydro Excavation Quote Request
A clear scope helps the contractor and excavation team identify assumptions before trucks and crews are scheduled.
1. Mark the work
Send a plan or sketch with the project address, exposure-point locations and the purpose of the work. State whether the inquiry is for selected potholes, a trench or another defined excavation.
2. Describe the known conditions
- Utility type and estimated depth, if known
- Surface material and site access
- Available utility plans and status of locating coordination
- Known constraints and information that still needs confirmation
3. Agree on responsibilities
Discuss utility notifications and locating, work-zone arrangements, water supply, excavated material, backfill and restoration. Do not assume these are included without identifying them in the quote.
4. Define the output and date
Explain what observations or documentation your project team needs. Include the target date, work-hour restrictions, bid deadline and superintendent's contact information. Availability and final scope should be confirmed before work is committed.
